EUGENE, Ore. – After five weeks of altitude training in Flagstaff, Ariz., several members of Oregon Track Club Elite are eager to test their early season fitness at sea level this week.

Nine OTC Elite athletes are entered in the Oregon Twilight Meet at Hayward Field on Friday.

On the women’s side, Chanelle Price will make her outdoor season debut at 800 meters, while Hanna Green steps up to the 1,500m, and former Oregon standout Sabrina Southerland is set to compete in the 400m.

Elsewhere, Nijel Amos will line up in the 400m and five of his teammates are entered in the 1,500m. They include Vincent Ciattei, Jake Heyward, Hassan Mead, Will Paulson, and Patrick Tiernan.

“We had five weeks of purposeful training at altitude,” OTC Elite coach Mark Rowland said. “People seem to be in a good place right now, but the true reflection will be seen over the next two weeks. We’re excited to be back in Eugene, and everyone is looking forward to racing at Hayward Field.”

A full crew of OTC Elite athletes will head to Los Angeles to compete in the Sound Running track and field meet on May 14-15.

This will be the second outdoor appearance of the season for both Southerland and Amos.

Southerland, the 2018 NCAA Indoor 800m champion for the Ducks, won the 800m at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix on April 24. Her time of 2:00.76 was four-hundredths of a second off her personal best and the fastest 800m opener of her career.

Similarly, Amos, the 2012 Olympic 800m silver medalist, posted his best season opener in the 400m with a second-place time of 45.69 at the Grand Canyon meet. He was beaten to the tape by Grenada’s Kirani James, the 2012 Olympic 400m gold medalist.
