OTC Elite advances all three athletes in 800m

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon Track Club Elite couldn't have asked for a better opening day at the U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday.

All three OTC Elite entrants - Hanna Green, Drew Piazza and Harun Abda - competed in the first round of the 800 meters, and all three advanced to Friday's semifinals by placing among the top three in their respective heats.

Green, a second-year pro out of Virginia Tech, won the second of four heats in the women's 800m with a time of 2:02.74, the fourth-fastest qualifying mark overall.

In the men's 800m, Piazza placed second in his heat at 1:47.44, while Abda finished third in the final heat with a 1:48.35 clocking.

The women's 800m semifinals begin at 4:18 p.m. (Pacific) on Friday, followed by the men's 800m at 4:32 p.m. OTC Elite's Ben Blankenship and Vince Ciattei will both be in action in the first round of the 1,500m at 2:30 p.m.
