OTC Elite’s Gourley, Osagie set for British Championships

By Curtis Anderson | Aug 22, 2019

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Track Club Elite will be represented by Neil Gourley and Andrew Osagie at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham, England, on Aug. 24-25.

Gourley, a second-year pro, will compete in the 1,500 meters, while the veteran Osagie lines up in the 800m. They will be seeking berths in the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar (Sept. 27-Oct. 6).

Under the British selection system, the top two finishers in each event at the Trials earn automatic berths to the World Championships (Sept. 27-Oct. 6) if they have achieved the qualifying standard. The third spot will be determined by a selection committee.

Gourley, the reigning British Indoor 1,500m champion, is one of five entrants in the 1,500m with the standard (3:36.0). He set his personal best of 3:35.95 earlier this summer in Seattle. The 24-year-old native of Glasgow, Scotland, placed third at last year’s British championships.

The 31-year-old Osagie has not yet run the qualifying standard (1:45.80) in the 800m this summer. The 2012 Olympian and two-time World Indoor bronze medalist has a season best of 1:46.71. He established his PR of 1:43.77 at the 2012 London Olympics.

In addition, OTC Elite’s Hanna Green is entered in the 800m at the Diamond League meeting in Paris on Aug. 24. The second-year pro out of Virginia Tech made her first World team with a second-place finish in the 800m at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 28. She set a personal best of 1:58.19 in that race, making her the fifth-fastest 800m performer in the world this year.

Elsewhere, OTC Elite’s Harun Abda placed second in the 800m (1:48.44) at the Morton Games in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 21.
