EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Track Club Elite’s Neil Gourley is entered in the 1,500 meters at the British Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England on Saturday and Sunday.
Gourley, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is aiming for a berth on the British team that will compete at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, March 1-3, in his hometown. He tuned up for the meet with a victory in the 800m in Glasgow last Saturday (Feb. 2) with a time of 1:48.65.
The 24-year-old Gourley is one of three former Virginia Tech standouts to join OTC Elite this year. The Hokies won the distance medley relay title at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships with Gourley on the anchor leg.
Gourley set his personal best of 3:35.98 in the 1,500m at the Diamond League meeting in London last summer. He also placed third in that distance at the 2018 British Athletics Outdoor Championships.
OTC Elite also has one athlete entered in the Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor facility in Seattle on Friday (Feb. 8). Harun Abda will race in the men's 800m, where he is seeded in the fast section. After a last minute schedule change, the men's 800 is set to go off at 12:15pm.
Last weekend Hanna Green and Drew Piazza both competed at the Camel City Elite in North Carolina.
Green took second in the 800m by edging former Oregon great Raevyn Rogers by one-hundredth of a second at the tape, 2:03.08 to 2:03.09. Piazza ran 1:49.26 to place fourth in the men’s 800m.
