EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Track Club Elite’s Hanna Green and Drew Piazza are both entered in the 800 meters at the seventh annual Camel City Elite indoor track and field meet in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday (Feb. 2). Both athletes are familiar with the Camel City meet.
Green is the reigning women’s 800m champion after winning last year’s title in her first season as a pro. She was ranked 8th in the U.S. in the 800m after reaching the finals at both the USATF Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2018.
In the 800m, Green has an indoor PR of 2:02.13 and an outdoor PR of 2:00.09.
Piazza, who officially joined OTC Elite earlier this month, placed second in the Camel City men’s 800m last year and third in 2017. Piazza was ranked 7th in the U.S. in the 800m after placing fifth in the USATF Outdoor Championships last season.
His 800m PRs are 1:45.69 outdoors and 1:47.28 indoors.
Both Green and Piazza will face stiff competition at the Camel City meet.
The women’s 800m field is led by Olympian and U.S. record-holder Ajee’ Wilson and former Oregon standout Raevyn Rogers. Wilson and Rogers were ranked third and sixth, respectively, in the world last year. The men’s 800m headliner is 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy, who was ranked eighth in the world last season.
OTC Elite newcomer Neil Gourley, a native of Great Britain, is scheduled to run an 800m in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday. Gourley, who opened his indoor season with a victory in the mile at the UW Invitational last week, is targeting a berth in the 1,500m at the European Indoor Championships, March 1-3.
